Fabrication-Aware Joint Clustering in Freeform Space-Frames

نویسندگان

چکیده

The geometrical variability in the joints of large-scale, doubly-curved space-frame structures can have a substantial impact on time and cost their construction. This paper proposes novel framework to assess construction complexity as factor fabrication joints, promote informed design process. k-means algorithm was used cluster into batches, providing an overview distribution. A initialisation method developed that allows adapt project-specific inputs, substantially improving compactness. Overlaying clustering results with properties different processes provides accurate estimation alternative options. applied large-scale case study demonstrate benefits practice. Alternative scenarios were assessed early stages development, leading process hence efficient complex structures.

Fabrication of Freeform Optics

Freeform surfaces on optical components have become an important design tool for optical designers. Non-rotationally symmetric optical surfaces have made solving complex optical problems easier. The manufacturing and testing of these surfaces has been the technical hurdle in freeform optic’s wide-spread use. Computer Numerically Controlled (CNC) optics manufacturing technology has made the fabr...

Systems Issues in Solid Freeform Fabrication

This paper is concerned with the systems aspects of the Solid Freeform Fabrication (SFF) technology, i.e., the issues that deal with getting an external geometric CAD model to automatically control the physical layering fabrication process as directly as possible, regardless of the source of the model. The general systems issues are described, the state of systems research is given, and open re...

Advances in Multiple Material Solid Freeform Fabrication

Due to their layer-based nature, Solid Freeform Fabrication (SFF) techniques offer the possibility of fabricating parts in which the material properties vary in three dimensions. Such a capability promises to allow engineers components and parts that are truly optimized with respect to material properties. This presentation discusses research at The University of Texas at Austin to develop a mu...

Thickening Freeform Surfaces for Solid Fabrication

Purpose: Given an intersection-free mesh surface S , we introduce a method to thicken S into a solid H located at one side of S . By such a surface-to-solid conversion operation, industrial users are able to fabricate a designed (or reconstructed) surface by rapid prototyping. Design/methodology/approach: In this paper, we first investigate an implicit representation of the thickened solid H ac...

Functional Freeform Fabrication for Physical Artificial Life

Solid freeform fabrication (SFF) allows 3D-printing of arbitrarily shaped structures, directly from computer-aided design (CAD) data. SFF has traditionally focused on printing passive mechanical parts. Advances in this technology and developments in materials science make it feasible to begin the development of a single, compact, robotic SFF system – including a small set of materials which can...
